Re: [RPG]: Wizards Presents: Worlds and Monsters, reviewed by Failed Saving Throw (4/
The problem with this review is that there is no defining standard that the reviewer is measuring up to. He is critical of the supplement without considering why anyone would want to read it. Without such a ruler, he will naturally be disappointed. It is like complaining about football for not having any bats. He mentions that the introduction explains the task at hand for the writers but then does not explain if they were met or anything brought up within that paragraph is ever address again. He could have easily use this section as the outline of his review or stated what his expectations where before getting to the meat of his review.
Additionally, the information that is provided throughout the rest of the review is limited and lacks detail. Worse, is that there is no explanation on how the information is to be applied or the affects of these changes within game play. I believe that if you are going to be critical you should give reasons why “this is a bad idea.” The same thoughts can be applied to the areas where he is favorable. Asserting something is cool still needs supporting argument or evidence.
The point of the review, from my interpretation, is that these supplements that are coming out before the release of 4E do not have a lot of information and is pointless to purchase. He should have stated this early without the bitter emotion and then use the text of the supplement to illustrate his point. Perhaps with the conclusion that until 4E is release these books are over priced appetizers that will be obsolete as soon as the main course arrives. Honestly I do not know; it is a poorly written review.
