I think this is a matter of player preference, not what pulp is "about".

You have a valid point, but so did the OP. Sure the pulps would detail caliber, make, etc., but when it came down to it, the protagonist's gun was good enough to do what the protagonist wanted, regardless of detail. The question, I think, is whether we really want
strict pulp anyway, which would really destroy group dynamics...
