Re: [RPG]: Dungeons & Dragons Player's Handbook: 4th Edition, reviewed by Chris Davie

Frankly, I thought this review was trash. It only referred to a few items. Where was the discussion on combat? Character creation? Complexity of this edition vs the previous?

It focused on just a few things. A review should focus on the game in its entirety: that doesn't mean it has to be a chapter-by-chapter, page-by-page account of the game engine, but this barely discussed a wide variety of items.

Such as: how do rituals work? It mentioned you can get them, but what are they? How does combat work? What about healing surges? Healing magics in this edition vs previous editions?

I'm not a 4e fan boy - or hater. I've enjoyed D&D's previous editions well enough, I suppose, but I was never in love with it, and I'm waiting for the jury to come back in with this edition.

This was the first review I found, and it was profoundly disappointing that it lacked a great deal of the important details I expect to find from any RPG review: how difficult is it to play? Is it fun? How does combat work? How does it compare to the previous edition? How does character creation work?

There were so many details lacking, and so much focus on such a small collection of items, it told me nothing whatsoever that would help me make an informed decision on whether this is a game I might find worth picking up.

And so, I'm off in search of the next review, in hopes it actually addresses the pertinent details.
