It's hard to say. Imagine if Hackmaster characters started at level 5 (and the monsters were just as powerful), all PCs had equally interesting things to do in combat (as opposed to the traditional abilities of the major classes), and the role of magic items was much more limited. Oh, and art design from 2008. It would be a very different feel to the game. It's worth checking out at your local game store, or better yet listed to the actual play on Wizards.com so you get a better sense of the gameplay.
