Re: [RPG]: Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition Player's Handbook, reviewed by Al Seeger (4

Honestly, Coglio, it sounds like your 'kick monster rear' fix would actually be better served with Descent, by Fantasy Flight Games. It not only has that style of play, but the heroes are created with 'powers' on cards and the box is absolutely chock-o-block with minis, dungeon tiles and everything you need to run a D&D 4e type experience. It even includes rules for visiting towns to sell and buy new stuff and random encounters in those towns.

The new Road to Legend expansion actually has a campaign system that allows you to play a linked series of campaigns that are represented on a world map with town and dungeon locations. But the best part is the DM plays the Evil Overlord character and is trying to bring his plans to fruition as the characters explore and try to stop him.

Really, it is a great game and both it and the expansion will only set you back the cost of the 4E books and the KotS adventure and it includes everything you need to play for a long time. I'd say Descent does what 4e aims to do, only better...
