These criticisms of 4e strike me as odd. I may be wrong, but I don't ever seem to recall detailed mechanics describing a character's psychological make-up in any version of D&D. I can't help but think many people are exercising criticism of D&D in general than the 4th edition in particular when they go on about this.

Incidentally, the CHA bonus to your damage does make sense to me in the case of certain powers. I live in Japan, and regularly practice kendo. Intimidation and force of presence are assets as great as the strength of your arm.

The new rules encourage tactical manuever and use of powers far above verisimilitude or immersion in the world. And those two things are what define an RPG for a great many folks...
Only the "new rules"? Perhaps you could provide examples of how previous editions encouraged "immersion in the world." I have played every edition of the game from the 1977 Basic Set to 3.5, and I can't ever recall such elements being integral to D&D.
