Re: [RPG]: H3: Pyramid of Shadows, reviewed by Gaffa (3/3)

Gaffa, you and Capp are talking apples & oranges here (a new RPG, perhaps? A&O?). I can say that because I know Capp from the WFRP boards where he is a magor contributor (you should read his 'Apocalyptic Chaos Maifestations' table. Your wizards will never be flippant about using magic again ) and WFRP is an entirely different beast to D&D and has been since it's inception.

Where D&D has been and always will be, heroic high fantasy, WFRP is decidely low fantasy and what works for one (in this case H3) is totally out of place in the other. So there really is no middle ground here as I think that Capp (and he can correct me if I'm wrong) is approaching it from that perspective. And whereas I can see his argument that the 'iconic' modules set the tone for the entire game and playstyle, I'm more concerned with the core rules setting a gamist precedent than I am the first few adventure modules.

Me, personally, I have loved WFRP since the day it came out and it replaced D&D for me at the time. But I started on BD&D/AD&D and occasionally, I want my high fantasy fix and and I play some type of D&D variant (C&C almost exclusively now) so I can appreciate the pure exploratory fun of H3, especially the gonzo tourney style nature of it which is a step removed from even the typical old school D&D experience...
