Why worry? Oh, maybe because of the crap that was 3.5 being inflicted upon us. 3 years after the 3 core books and countless others are released, Hasbro basically dumps a different (more miniatures-friendly) system on us, that doesn't really fix anything that's broken, but instead "helps" you transition into their minis line and forces you to buy new books (including the 3.5 revisions of whatever else you own).
When first edition was out, countless new editions were being made. But they always seemed to add to what was out, or clarify certain things, not change entire lines so you had to blow a significant chunk of a paycheck to buy the thing.
I miss the old 11-12 years between editions thing (AD&D came out in 1977, AD&D2E in 1988-89, and 3E came out in 2000).
That being said we had a pretty successful core campaign, even if d20 does not feel like Star Wars (Risus & Wushu do it better). I liked the Wound/Vitality system, and no one died (shock of shocks).
