Re: [RPG]: Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition Core Rulebook Gift Set, reviewed by Venger

I apprecaited this review.

I don't own the books but I've glanced at a friends and I've been following the messageboards.

My gut feeling was that the game is going more toward miniatures combat, especially with the focus on things like shifting and positioning. I like miniatures combat games, but I already have a few that I am happy with.

This review is a little confirmation that my gut feeling was probably correct.

I suppose that after 8 years with 3.x, I am now looking for a game that is less combat intensive, and one in which it is perfectly viable and acceptable to make a character that is bad at combat, but it is still a playable character in the game. In fact, I am looking for a game that could support adventures that are only 20% combat and 80% roleplaying and puzzle-solving.
