The things I actually like about D&D 4th Edition are really all about the basic setting and have nothing to do with the mechanics. It's basic design choices.
Finally making the Succubus a Devil, and giving both Demons and Devils clarified roles in the setting. An actual reason for their existance.
I like how the planes are outlined. Rather than feeling mechanical, they feel like product of a real mythology. This is the part I feel absolutely is the most solid. Something I feel they did right.
I really love the relationship between the Elves, Eladrin, and the Drow. They each have their own unique roles within the setting that makes perfect sense to me.
I just feel the mechanical aspects and the basic removal of the social elements really don't do the incredible gains they made with the base setting the justice it really deserves.
