I would have agreed that GURPS wasn't relevant at all. GURPS is not (in my experience) half as miniatures/map intensive as D&D 4E is (as presented in the reviews I've read). Now, first recognize that it's been years since I looked at GURPS (2nd ed, I believe...) and I haven't paid any attention to 4E other than the reviews.
So what I think is happening, is that people feel that 4E doesn't emphasize any roleplaying, and highly emphasizes tactical combat. GURPS on the other hand, even without a setting, has a number of inherent role-playing comments and incentives (ads/disads, etc.).
Again, I
think this is the case. So from that perspective, since no one had made any comments about GURPS to the point of your post, your comment was non sequitor and irrelevant.
On the other hand, that's typical in RPG.net forums, so I don't know why Spectral was a) shocked, and b) seemingly somewhat offended.
Just my 3rd party perspective.
