You are seriously missing the point. The reason all those cool sounding names are not expanded on is because 4e is about promoting imagination, not replacing it.
The game gives you a hook to then grow out and develop for your personal setting. Or to alter so that it fits with what ever setting you choose to play with.
Considering that rather than force feed you a singular setting, 4e is sticking to old school D&D where the company produces campaign settings that players can then pick and choose from, I think providing hooks and no singular bound setting in the core set is a wise decision. It means less house-ruling to fit the game into your fantasy setting.
