I picked this book up...it's pretty handy. There's a bit of the old school rant initially, but then he apologizes and addresses the guy who just wants to get to making interesting monsters.

Anyway, I've found it useful so far for making some new beasties for my 4E D&D games as well as Castles & Crusades and Runequest....the various rule references do mesh best with D&D style games, but the book is much more useful for conceptual designs, and so it serves as a generic tool very well.
