After checking out the Adobe site and DTRPG, I can safely say that I will not be purchasing any material from DTRPG.
1. Too expensive. After printing and binding costs, it would be cheaper to get the print version.
2. Crappy print options.
As I can only print from computers that I have registered with Adobe, I am limited to the ink-jet that I own at home. I can not take the file to a professional copy shop and use their laser printers. Nor can I print out a copy on the printers at work as management wouldn't let me install personal DRM information on a company machine.
3. At the mercy of Adobe.
How long will this free service of Adobe's last? I didn't see any mention of any time frame in which Adobe will promise service. What happens when Adobe upgrades to 7.0 and phases out the authentication of 6.0? Am I going to be forced to upgrade my machine to use PDFs that I have already paid for? What happens if Adobe goes out of buisness or is sold? The end of Enron and Worldcom are proof that even big companies can disappear overnight. With regular PDFs, you can count on having open source solutions in the future.
