I'll risk life and limb by posting a few comments about DTRPG.
I use a Mac. For personal reasons, I prefer Mac OS 9.2, though I can run OX 10.3 if I need to. Acrobat 6.0 with DRM does not run under Mac OS 9.2. You can't even download from DTRPG unless you have Acrobat 6. So, unless I feel like reconfiguring my computer everytime I want to use the site, no dice.
That is a problem for me and maybe three other people in the world. No biggie for DTRPG.
More importantly, there is a program called Advanced eBook Inscriber, or simply AEBIN, which supposedly cracks or removes Adobe DRM protections, and which is available legally and freely online as a demo version of a commercial product. It's a Windows program, so I have no idea if or how well it works, but you can go to
www.elcomsoft.com and look for it. It apparently does not work with DRM3 or DRM5 coding.
If it does work for DTRPG files, then it means that all the DRM hype and hoops one needs to jump through are pointless. They add work and hassles for the end user, and provide no real anti-piracy protection for the producer.
If anyone out there wants to look the site up and test the program with one of their free DTRPG downloads, it would be informative.
