Re: AD&D Hardback and Module sale [ebay]

Did you mean to list some of them with $17.75 in media mail shipping?

Re: AD&D Hardback and Module sale [ebay]

Yes I did. It wasn't to be crazy or anything, just wanted to keep the .99 cents intro on it to get more people rather than put it at 14.95 and $5 shipping. Either way, it would work out.

Just a heads up, eBay specifically prevents that kind of action. See this linked shipping charge policy.

Yes they do, but I've used other auctions on thier site as a base for these auctions. So I think I am safe enough. Either way, it works out. Thanks for the heads up though. It made me give it another look.

That's completely fraudulent and illegal. You're not allowed to factor shipping as a portion of the sale, and it's really lame when people take advantage of the system like that.

It's a violation of ebay rules because it dodges your fees to them...

Re: AD&D Hardback and Module sale [ebay]

Sadly, lots of people on ebay do this to some extent (I don't know about that much) because of the fees. Actually, it's one of the reasons I rarely browse eBay anymore. I'm in NYC -- if I look enough, I can probably find it at a reasonable price right away without shipping.

And I don't sell anything because the fees are ridiculous and for what I'd be selling, the shipping kills any savings. (I'd mostly be selling old or used stuff.)

Re: AD&D Hardback and Module sale [ebay]

Hey now, don't kill me. Take a look around and you'll find many others like this. There is a "handling" part of the "shipping & handling" you may not have considered. Does it really cost $2 to send a yugioh playing card? No. So what is the $1.50 for (300% of the actual shipping cost?) It's handling. (And $1.50 is small)

Also, as far as ebay fees go, ther actually do have automated things that put a cap on shipping charges. Try sending a DVD. The maximum you can charge is $4 to send it. How much does it cost to send? $2 by the way.

Again, I used other auctions as a base they went through just fine. So I did it.

Most of the cards I've ordered arrive via first class and some had mandatory insurance. First class is more expensive than media mail, though $1.50 is high. Regardless, I also tend to bypass the auctions with excessive shipping costs. I know it only costs about $3.50 to send an RPG book (roughly 400 pages, soft cover) in a bubble mailer via media mail clear across the country and always take that into account when bidding. It just seems shady to me, and I wouldn't want to deal with a shady seller.

Using other auctions as a base just means that no one reported excessive shipping fees to eBay. They don't catch everything and kind of rely on the shoppers to get the more information.

This is all just my opinion. I'm sure many others out there have no issues with any of this, so just take it for what it's worth.
