LARP groups Northwest England

Hello, I live in Carlisle which is in the North West of England.

I have never done LARP before, but me and a mate want to start.

Any ideas where I can get more information about groups near me?

Thanks in advance

Asodan

Re: LARP groups Northwest England

Song of Steel and Fools and Heroes both run rubber sword linears (D&D-type fantasy adventures) around Manchester (SoS) and St. Helens (FnH).

Curious Pastimes have a number of their festival events (featuring heavy player-on-monster combat) at a site near Wigan.

Manchester has an Isles of Darkness-affiliated (though not actually club, it's complicated) Vampire: the Requiem game using the Mind's Eye Theatre system.

Carlisle's pretty damn north though, you might want to look to stuff in the North East and Scotland rather than further south. Furorae Normanum (I've almost certainly spelt that wrong) run all sorts of things on that side of the country. Durham University Treasure Trap (DUTT) may or may not still be operating. Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Edinburgh (and I think) Glasgow all have Isles Of Darkness domains in them (definitely running Vampire, Mage, Werewolf and Changeling in some combination somewhere). There's also an independent Requiem game called "Cities in Darkness" spread across Newcastle, Middlebrough and Durham.

I can't think of anything else significant to add, except that Shadow Wars (cyberpunk airsoft larp) ran an event in the Scottish lowlands last year.

Re: LARP groups Northwest England

There is a vampire larp game running in Carlisle atm using the old Wod, we tried the new stuff but it didn't have the same feel to it. The game has been running since September so nearly reached the year point and we have managed to actually increase the player base, think we have about 16 regular people and some others which turn up on occasion.

The ST who runs it is usually overworked so not sure if he is accepting anymore players at the moment but worth taking a look. We also did a one off Werewolf game set in the same storyline as the Vamp game which was loads of fun, we hired a local scout camp as werewolf works much better in an outdoor setting, the werewolf game however isn't going to be a regular game, although he might run another one off next year.

Re: LARP groups Northwest England

Hi, my name is James and I'm the Organiser of NEGG (The North of England Gaming Group).

One of the types of games we advertise is Live Action Roleplay Groups and Clubs (as well as Boardgames, CCGs, Tabletop RPGs and/or Wargames) and gamers in search of Clubs and/or Groups and we are looking for people like yourself to join the group.

NEGG has a two-fold purpose. The first is the Meetup Group we have on here. The Meetup Group's purpose is to bring players together and make them aware of the different games available in the area. Its also for Organisers to advertise their Clubs/Groups.

If you want to join the Meetup Group follow the link: http://www.meetup.com/The-North-of-E...ng-Group-NEGG/

The second is the actual Gaming Group in Accrington. Our hobby covers a broad range of activities, from Boardgaming, Collectible Card Games, LARP/LRP, Tabletop RPGs and Wargames. The Group's aim is to run all these games in one Venue and we are looking for other gamers to help us as either an Organiser and/or Player in any of the Categories.

We are running the game on the 1st Sunday of the month at National Association Church & Oswaldtwistle Club Ltd. The Club has a licensed bar and the drinks are surprisingly cheap. Below is a link that shows a map to a venue:

I hope you will join the Meetup Group and come along to the Gaming Group and help make both of them a success. Also if you know anyone else who you think would like to join then please let them them know, word of mouth is by far the best way to get gamers together.

Hope to see you soon,

James

Lancaster University has a Roleplay society that run a regular Saturday LARP in at least two settings during term time. You need to sign up as a none-student to be covered by insurance but it's a very good crowd.

I believe Urlang might be pointing you at them already. If not the society is called LURPS.

Re: LARP groups Northwest England

I run an Vampire larp in Preston and there are two excellent fantasy games, Ormgard and Wythernheart. All of these games welcomes new players and would be more than happy to have anyone come along and play.

Drop me a PM if you would like more info.
