I don't think that was even player fatigue factoring in, like the death of that second monk from earlier in the thread. I knew there was a cockatrice corpse in my inventory, and I even checked its letter before eating. I just clumsily pawed the keyboard and died.
Now excuse me for a bit while I bang my head on my filing cabinet. It seems like the right thing to do.
Ouch. Sorry, dude. We've all been there.

The next character will probably be that illiterate caveman that had the late surge last vote. But I'll loosen most of the restrictions on voting: any role, any race, any version, in case anybody's burning for another Slash'EM run, an UnNethack run, a vanilla run, or a repeat of a previous role (like monk or a wizard w/ conducts).
I vote for Luhvahrbuhrtuhn the illiterate cave-elf.

As an incidental FYI, I've updated the Windows binary with some changes; one of those changes removes some annoying errors of shambling horrors (forbids lycanthropy, etc.), so you may want to grab it before starting a new game.
This description of play makes it clear that the healer class is pretty flawed, which I think is kind of a shame; it's a nice idea for a class.
I'm not sure "flawed" is the word, so much as deliberately hard-mode. It's a dedicated support character with no party to support. You have to know that's going to be trouble.

No role that gets darts at expert gets to claim to be 'hard mode'. Also, that STAFF. It isn't so much that healer is hard, it's just that it's boring. When you're bored while you play, you sometimes make mistakes.
Anyway… the illiterate cave elf has already been started. I have the first update sitting on my computer pretty much ready to go, but I don't think I'll be able to get it up until Friday. My family expects my presence tomorrow, and that means I have to leave the state as soon as possible after work.
