[Exalted] Glories Astrological Charms
So in all the discussion I didn't notice much talk about the way they snuck in not only new Sidereal Charms, but a way for Sidereals to make new Charms on their own, once Greater Astrology is unlocked. What did people think of the Charms? And if one wanted a higher powered Sidereals game with less SMAs, would it be broken to drop the "Craft Fate becomes globally harder" effect and just have Paradox as the limit on Charm use? Or even to drop the Paradox cost?

The Craft (Fate) rolls becoming harder ceases to be a problem once you get the Maidens to work in concert on the Loom of Fate, since they auto-succeed with an absurd threshold.

Frankly, the astrological charms were one of the best ideas in Glories.
They make me desperately want to see Sidereal charms based on their Colleges instead of Abiliites in hypothetical Exalted 3e- the Colleges all have links back to some Ability, but they've also got an obviously wider conceptual space to work in.
(I'd also like to see fate spinning as a more spontaneous process, but that's neither here nor there)

The only one you have to watch out for is the (sigh) scenelong perfect defense, Maiden and Gambler Stance. This is getting errata, but until that arrives, it's probably best to read it as a shaping attack on the designated target.

A scenelong perfect defense if you win a contested Essence roll, at the risk of suffering mote bleedout instead. Isn't it basically "scenelong perfect defense against someone much lower Essence than you, otherwise a big risk for 5 paradox"?

1. Soul Fire Shaper Form and/or Twice-Striking Lightning Prisms.
2. If you fail the roll even after all that, Avoidance Kata, come back and try again.
Sure, you get paradoxed, but that is not an adequate reason for the existence of a scenelong perfect defense.

Basing their Charms on Colleges would also address the issue of folks freaking out about "confusing" Charm trees because their dodge-enhancer is under Performance or whatnot, wouldn't it?

Yeah, but it makes them more into the guys who get their power from being initiated into magical secret societies of spirits (the spiders) and less guys who get their powers from being damn good at some human skill and looking at it askance. I see that as a downside, though YMMV. If a stat was gonna go, it'd probably be better to remove the Colleges as a separate stat and just have capability with them be a function of the Sidereal's skill at some Ability.

It's the Solars and maybe DBs who supposedly get their powers from being damn good at a human skill. Lunars use Attributes. Moving Sidereal Charms to colleges seems to fit their Fate Mastery theme better.

Making Sidereals less "confusing" would make me a sad Sidereal player.
