Soundtrack recommendations: In Nomine and/or Call of Cthulhu

Guess I'll tap into the great hive-mind of RPGnet once again...

This is the setup: the day after tomorrow we'll kick off a three-session In Nomine mini-campaign. Two weeks from now, I'll run a Call of Cthulhu one-shot. Alternity, Indiana Jones and Dark Sun will also be run in that weekend.

As I'm a great fan of playing music during RPG sessions to set the atmosphere, I want some cool and appropriate for each session, especially In Nomine and Call of Cthulhu. Background music, mind you -- for instance, while I really like the soundtrack from Spawn, it's too noisy and intrusive to use as background.

I had several things in mind, but maybe you have additions and/or corrections:

In Nomine
Choeurs Des Moines De Chevetogne - Chants De La Liturgie Slavonne

While In Nomine comes with its own list of inspirational music, it's way too much rock-oriented. The above album is related to Gregorian chants, perfect for setting the religious setting.

Call of Cthulhu
- Mark Snow - Music From The X-Files - The Truth And The Light
Its almost what I'm looking for, but it has two drawbacks: it has dialogue and quotes in it, and it's a bit two synthetic. Not 'gritty' enough.
- Some parts from the Twin Peaks score, by Angelo Badelamenti.
- Some parts from the LotR:Fellowship of the Ring score, although its a bit too epic and pompous.
- Some Morricone stuff
- Interview with the Vampire score by Goldenthal
- and I asked a friend after the Sleepy Hollow soundtrack.

I've got probably enough, but not exactly what I'm looking for. Suggestions are appreciated! What I'm really looking for is some off-tune, off-key music that sounds just 'wrong'.

Alternity
I heard somewhere the Alien (or was it Aliens?) soundtrack is pretty good... does this match your experiences?

Indiana Jones
I'm not a big Indy fan, so I have no clue whatsoever on this one...

Dark Sun
I'd suggest the Dune soundtrack , but it's too synthesyzery... Anyone any good ideas? I guess I'm looking here for non-vanilla fantasy, gritty, dirty,...

Recommendations are highly appreciated!

In Nomine Sountrack

For In Nomine I would also recomend....

*U2
*Tea Party (the Marches)
*Start Wars Epsoide 1 (Dual of the Fates Screams In Nomine).
*Anything By Danny Elfman (For parts were Celetials are being all etherialy)
*Gorillaz (Makes good background music for any Urban Modern Game)
*Karma Slave (From the Titan A.E sound track)
*City of Angles Sound Track

And I can probably think of more if I had the time.

Cthulhu- Silence of the Lambs soundtrack. I cannot emphasis enough how the music steadily ratchets up tension.

Indiana Jones- try getting the film soundtracks- I have a bunch of Indy scores on some compialtion CD somewhere.

For CoC, I highly recomend Angelo Badalmenti, or how ever you spell it. Some of his stuff is on the lost highways soundtrack.

I just got a CD called "Portals of Grace" -- for me, it fit In Nomine very well.

Amazon carries it.

For outright creepiness you can't beat Christopher Young's scores for Hellraiser and Hellbound. Nothing like a track titled "Rat Slice Quartet".

The score for the Crow is pretty good too.

I did all my In Nomine prep listening to Sixteen Horsepower CDs. I really have no idea how to describe them: goth-folk, maybe. They can make banjos and accordions into the most despairing and doom-laden instrumentation imaginable.

Try checking out the Dune miniseries soundtrack. It's got an interesting mix of Middle Eastern/ African tribal rhythms mixed with some classical.
It beats Toto.

Thanks!

Hmm, I see some great recommendations here. I'll check them out.

At the mention of Sixteen Horsepower, I went completely doh... I know the band, I've got some of their albums, and I forgot about them. They are a little intrusive, though. And the Dune miniseries, ... hmm, interesting. Never saw them, but maybe I can get my hand on the soundtrack. Silence of the Lambs, also noted. Indy soundtrack, also doh.

Most of Challs recommendations are too intrusive, sorry :-) Hellraiser, Hellbound... never heard them, guess I have to hunt down an MP3 or something to check it out. The Crow score is way too loud, so that one's off. And Badass? I never even heard about the things you're mentioning Neither about Gamethyme's Portals of Grace. I don't have the Lost Highway soundtrack, but I've got Badelamenti's Twin Peaks.

Thanks again!
