Notice carefully how I mention criticizing, or appearing to criticize. It's a difficult balancing act, I admit, especially when the game hasn't been released yet. But there are people who have bad reactions to unfavorable comparisons due to flamewars and badwrongfun and people who should know better stirring up infighting based on RPG preferences. And I agree: that gets tiresome.
Fine. That said, trashing a game's art does not equal trashing a game. This is why Zap's post is strange; the only thing John Snead says is "awful" about THS is the artwork, which is actually a hell of a compliment if the artwork is the only thing awful about it.

And I made no mention of the company itself doing this, because the company itself doesn't have to do it for it to become annoying: all that has to happen is the fanbase being vocal about it for people to get turned off.
Again, fine, except:
A). THS fans, detractors, and assorted people in-between have been ragging on the art direction for the game since it's creation, so this is hardly anything new that the pending release of Eclipse Phase has wrought, and
B). I don't see anyone slagging off on any game, here. Again, a game's art is not the game.

Trying to convince me to check out your game, you are doing yourself no favours by saying stuff like this. Different sure... better I'll be the judge, but that kind of punking the competition is in poor form.

and was critical of it for reasons I outlined above.
I can see where Zap was coming from, but it requires more than a cursory reading of the thread to get the whole story.
Also, can we keep discussions of Project Donut out of this and other Eclipse Phase threads until both games come out and we have actual, physical games to compare? That seems to me to be the courteous thing to do.
I'm interested in how they handle Morphs and Reputation in Eclipse Phase.
I can see the annoyance and yeah, that Snead post seemed like it was about more than the art. OTOH, Snead's been a writer for THS. It's not the same as Bruce Baugh saying SotC is a better pulp game than Adventure! (pro-tip: IIRC, Baugh is the *author* of Adventure!) but it's more than a random fan. And saying "better than X" can be useful if the differences are then explained, since the real meat is "different than X" in ways one may or may not like.

I'm surprised that noone mentioned it is being released under the Creative Commons license. Although I doubt this will do a lot with regard to fan materials I find it a refreshing change of pace (and appeals to my nanosocialism ideals).
I'm hoping to hear something with meat soon, it's been a dry spell since it was announced (the recent interview notwithstanding). The fact that they have the art director behind the fabulous-looking CthulhuTech working on the book has also really piqued my interest. The book could be one long rant on post-Singularity pet worship and I would still get some pretty pictures

ah, so you are the author of this game right?
can you tell me if you are going to publish this game in a rpg book?
and if the AIs character are going to have an important roll as antagonist in this story?
This looks like it's right up my ally, and I'm pretty excited about picking up a copy - especially since I'm a fan of most of the books and authors listed in the "credits."
Likewise I like their concept that the system should not get in the way of the game. Let us hope that they are successful in that.
