[SG-1] So what happened to Apophis?

Ok, so I became a Stargate fan sometime around the end of season six / start of season seven. Thanks to Sci-Fi's doing four reruns every Monday night, I've seen most of the series up to Daniel's ascension. (Gah, but now this week they started over at season one instead of showing more season six, dangit!)

But, as the thread title hints at, I'm curious what finally happened to Apophis? I know Anubis is the main villain in seasons six and seven, but I never saw what happened to Apophis or how Anubis came to power (I know he's got the whole partially ascended thing going on, of course.) Was Apophis' end when his ship crashed to that planet as it was being consumed by replicators, or did he come back after that? I know there was one episode where he had been scarred and had been in hiding for a while, but I don't know when that took place.

I also know he died at the SGC once, only to be revived later by someone else, but I thought that occured earlier in the series. Am I confused on all this? Any information on the fate of Apophis would be appreciated.

Spoilers, obviously:

Apophis cheated death a remarkable number of times. The first time the SGC assumed he died when his mothership blew up thanks to the liberal application of C4 by SG-1, but he used the onboard stargate to escape the same way SG-1 did.

The second time he was captured by SG-1 after escaping torture by Sokar. They brought him back to earth, watched (and filmed) his death, and then tossed his body through the gate to placate Sokar. However, Sokar used a sarcophagus to revive him (to continue torturing him). Sokar eventually got bored and dumped him on his hellish prison-planet.

Which is where SG-1 met him while looking for Jacob (who had been captured). Much altrecation later, SG-1 blows up the planet, but kills Sokar rather than Apophis (who ends up in command of Sokar's forces).

On discovering that he's still not dead, they hatch a plan with the Tokra to wipe out him and his fleet by blowing up the sun orbiting the Tokra's secret base once they've evacuated. Things go a tad wrong and SG1's stolen ship ends up in another galaxy, along with Aphophis' flagship and a whole bunch of replicators. Much chaos later Aphosis' ship, infested with replicators, smashes into his home planet at relativistic speed. I'm pretty sure he'll stay dead, this time.

(More spoilers, of course.)

Sokar! That's the name I couldn't remember. For some reason I was thinking Anubis, but I didn't think Anubis was around back then.

Sounds like I pretty much had seen all of the stuff regarding his deaths and almost-deaths, just had it kind of mixed up. I was aware that he had "returned" plenty of times, just didn't know what the last time was. I would agree with you, one would think he'd have finally met his end when the ship hit his home planet.

But hey, who knows? What with Anubis being vaporized by the Ancient weapon SG-1 activated, there's a bit of a villain gap now. Maybe they'll find some way to bring him back for season 8.

Thanks for the info.

SG-1's got some severe relativistic villain creep.

"Apophis, he's a mean fellow. He trots through the forests of northern British Columbia killing people. Ooh, Sokar, he's meaner. See how he tortures the once mighty Apophis off-screen? No, wait, here's Bhaal, leader of armies of death and destruction. Eek, Anubis, he's so evil, the Goa'uld banished him!"

There's nowhere left to go. It's Billy Fucillo and Huge, Huger, Hugest all over again.

Yeah...but they've spaced it out nicely over 7 seasons. I don't think they plan to top Anubis. Maybe a totally new threat, but not ever more powerful Goaulds...(not for awhile, anyway... ).

I thought this (Season 8) was the last season, anyway, and that they're spinning it off/switching to Stargate: Atlantis instead (presumably with new enemies and a different focus).

Well, not for a few months. The new baddies, who are supposed to make the Goa'uld look like Little Mary Sunshine, are being introduced in season 8 and carried through to SG:Atlantis.

(Spoilers?)
So is Anubis dead, too? Is Anubis and Sokar the same person, because they always struck me as being way too similar (Goa'uld with big fleet, high technology, takes on the role of a devil figure, plus the same big cloak and the same actor played them both).

Are the Replicators totally gone too, I saw the episode with the Replicator planet, but certainly there are more out there?

Anubis is dead, but he and Sokar weren't the same person; all the Replicators in the universe (or at least in the Asgard's galaxy) are trapped in the slow-time field on the Asgard homeworld.

But you know what makes this show so great to me? After crashing Apophos's ship into the planet that last time, O'Neill and team are talking to some revived G'ould or something. O'Neill says that Apophos is dead and Daniel just makes a face, and after a brief moment O'Neill amends it to "we're pretty sure."

I love this show. When's the next season coming out on DVD?
