Saw "Troy" this afternoon. Every time Achilles take the battlefield, it's pure Dawn Caste inspiration. His reaction to the death of Patrocles is Limit Break in action.
And his Myrmidons brought the Followers Background into perfect clarity.

I'm normally not a guy to gush over a movie as being so much like a game it hurts, but you're dead on. The fight scene between Hector and Achilles was exactly how I'd picture a Heroic Mortal fighting one of the Exalted -- Eric Bana knows he's completely outclassed by a living killing-machine, but he's fighting anyway, because that's what you do. And the fight between Achillies/Patrocles and Hector is exactly what I picture Mail & Steel combat looking like, with two leaders at the center of the combat while their troops skirmish/watch around them.
And I could see the Limit Break.
I expect my Greek History major pals to be bitching tomorrow night about it, but I thought it was a pleasant enough way to spend $15, be entertained, and get some gaming inspiration. Now, I'm waiting for King Arthur as more fodder for PenDragon-Blooded.

You know, talk like this might get me to actually check Exalted out. Though I'd ditch the setting and use Mythic Greece instead.

Thankfully I was suitably prepared for what we got. Thus I came out with a sense of sadness about what might have been.
And with Arthur and Alexander coming along, I have more opportunities for the gnashing of teeth

Roger Ebert got me expecting the worst, to the point where I almost ditched out of the movie, until I realized that the movie's called "Troy," and not "The Iliad," and I was all of a sudden ready to enjoy a summer blockbuster, rather than one of the greatest epics in Western Literature. And Sean Bean was great as Odysseus, I thought.
I just think that if you're an Exalted fan, and you dig the movie, there's a lot to look at that synchs up with the game nicely when looking back, which is probably not surprising since Homer's an inspiration for the RPG. Lot's of people in the movie were using the Virtues system, I thought as I talked to my buddies.

Oh I managed to shut the Classics Major side of my brain up for a few hours, and so still enjoyed it as a summer action-fest.
As for Exalted, I've steered clear of it previously because I'm no fan of anime/wuxia (with a couple of exceptions). But would love to play in a game not unlike Troy the movie.
And GR's Trojan War book is coming along soon. So perhaps I'll pick both up and mix them along with my prior knowledge. Or wait a bit for Beyond Human.

A "dead" heroic mortal.
At least, right up until the time when First and Forsaken Lion exalts him as an Abyssal, so that he, tormented and alone, can seek a way to raise the spirits of the slaughtered people of Lookshy..... I mean, er, Troy and take vengeance against the Realm.
No, my good lord: ban Theron, ban Tao Jones, ban Afterburner; but for sweet Jack Patrick Y, kind Patrick Y, true Patrick Y, valiant Patrick Y, and therefore more valiant being, as his is, old Partrick Y, ban not him thy rpgnet's company, ban not him thy rpgnet's company. Ban good Patrick, and ban all the world!

Look up Occham's Razor and apply it to your theories. If that doesn't work, look up straight razor and apply it to your wrists.

While the costumes were great, I thought they really bungled the story.
If you liked the movie, and especially if you like Exalted, please do read the Iliad. It's much, much cooler than the movie. The characters are actually interesting, for instance.
