[Unisystem/Buffy] Swashbucklery goodness?

I was thinking about other times to set Buffy in. Apart from Steampunk, Buffy in Arthurian Albion, in Mythical Greece, and Buffy By Gaslight I thought of Buffy in Swashbucklery Times. Complete with all the genre tropes: musketeers, chandeliers, masked vigilantes, the Cardinal's men vs the King's men. Perhaps even go pirate and add a dose of Pirates Of The Caribbean and voodoo and stuff. I could mine Mage: The Swashbuckler's Handbook and GURPS: Swashbucklers for inspiration. But... is there any Unisystem material on this? Has anybody done any work in this direction themselves? Are there plans for The Three Zombies or Zombies Of The Caribbean or anything like that?

There are plans for a Zombie Pirate book (the title currently eludes me) but apart from ship combat, what else do you need?

Someone (I think maybe David Goodner) statted up Elizabeth Swann as a Slayer. Someday the Search function will let me prove this.

Not me.

I did write up a sword martial arts style for WitchCraft, but it's not much use for Buffy or Angel. In Lite games, everybody can already do combat maneuvers.

The title I heard was "Ahaar, there be zombies!"

Well. A few archetypes, perhaps extra-cool swashbuckling moves? Perhaps some Qualities. And sparkling writing from CJ. Some pre-made Spells for Buffyverse magic with Voodoo flavour.

Of course, you're right that most of it is already covered and / or can easily be created. But I'm lazy

(Miss Swann as an Slayer would rock!)

I'm brainstorming right now with my prospective co-GM. We already made the obvious connection between The Bermuda Triangle with Lost Atlantis. We're still debating whether Atlantis was a stronghold of aliens or of worshippers of unspeakable, Cthulhu-esque entities.
The Slayer, for now, is a secret agent for Queen Elisabeth and has set up shop in Port Royale. Her Watcher has assembled a crew for a very fast but lightly armed ship called The Scooby.

I posted an idea along these lines a while back myself. The Conquistadores discover a pyramid much like the one from From Dusk 'Till Dawn and wind up vamped. So, soon, the Spanish navy follows suit. The Slayer and her crew could be British privateers battling scurvy Spanish vampires and their zombie crews... and getting rich in the process!

No link to provide, really, except to the other thread in which I made the same suggestion. I'm glad you like the idea, though. Please feel free to use it with my blessing.

Ah, okay. I thought you had a more expansive version of this somewhere.
Unfortunately, I will consider myself blessed if I get to run any Buffy campaign... Let alone having to convince my players to play a non-conventional Buffy-game... But the brainstorming sure is fun

Re: [Unisystem/Buffy] Swashbucklery goodness?

Craig Oxbrow should be along any time now to tell you about Elizabeth: the Vampire Slayer. I think Cinematic Unisystem is a good marriage to the Swashbuckling Genre, in that most of the conventions are TV and movie conventions--we don't want to know about the realities of piracy; keep that copy of Under The Black Flag away from my game!

The number of pirate/horror/ghost ship stories abound, all of which can be mined for story ideas. It's a rich period and certain to be a lot of fun. I'd say rent all the pirate films you can (Errol Flynn's Captain Blood and The Sea Hawk being personal favorites), find old books of ghost stories, read Tim Powers' On Stranger Tides and watch Serpent and the Rainbow a couple times. The campaign should write itself.
