Where does the Red Brick Road go?

I was just rewatching the Wizard of Oz, and something caught my eye.

A Red Brick road, which begins with the yellow brick road but goes off elsewhere.

Is this in any of the books? If so, where does it go?

Re: Where does the Red Brick Road go?

I used to write Wizard of Oz books (Ozma's marriage) though I'm not too proud of the final product's editing results.

Winkie land is the land directly due east of Munchkinland, so it has a Yellow Brick road from it through the Emerald City towards it. Just as Munchkinland (which is supposed to be blue as Winkieland is Yellow) has a Blue Brick road through Winkieland.

The Red Brick road goes to Glinda's country of Quadling Country where she is Mage-Dictator. Presumably they have a blue brick road themselves and a Yellow Brick road.

The Northern Country roads would be Purple Brick for the Gilikens.

Any good Oz map shows the country is square and divided into four districts, each ruled by a Witch save the Green Center.

In high school, someone brought this up once and a friend of mine, in a deep vocie, intones... "Hell."

Hrmm here I was thinking the road to hell was paved with good intentions but apparently it's just red bricks!

http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/...396/oz-lore.htm

"Most folks believe that 'the red brick road' is an L. Frank Baum book convention that made it into MGM's 1939 classic film. In his books, the Land of Oz was divided into four quadrants and each was designated a particular color: Winkie Country = Yellow, Gillikin Country = Purple, Munchkin Country = Blue, and Quadling Country = Red. Glinda the Good was the ruler of the Quadlings in L. Frank Baum's Oz series. As her bubble floats away from Munchkinland in the 1939 film, it appears to be following the red brick road. Therefore, the red brick road most likely leads back to her homeland, Quadling Country."
