White Wolf getting into Constructable Strategy Games (CSG)

Ala Pirates of the Spanish Main.

Here is the blurb (taken from www.gamingreport.com):

We have learned that White Wolf is set to enter the Constructible Strategy Game (CSG) market under their Arthaus Publishing division. Looking to go head to head against WizKids later this year with racing goodness. Check out the details:

"Speed and valor bring victory! Enter the arena to race for glory! Choose your Racer Knight from the fivespecies attending Falconus Academy an elegant alfar, a mad gremlin, a brutish ogre, a human wizard, or a cunning serpid. Build your racer from a wide variety of engines, weapons, and more. Seize the winby completing the race first, or pummel your competitors so you're the last Racer Knight on the track. This constructible card game from Arthaus Publishing is introduced in packs containing a variety of plastic cardstock components from which to build your Racer including engines, tires, weapons, armor, and more plus a rules sheet and two dice.

Racer Knights Of Falconus CSG
To Retail for: $2.99 a pack

And in other news, WizKids has nothing to fear.

I'm not particularly exited about it either but I thought it was an interesting story. I do however, think there are other genres that could benefit from the CSG treatment. How about a large robot battle game ala Heavy Gear? I know Wizkids has Battletech already but those minis are downright ugly.

Or how about, I dunno, a spaceship fleet battle game? I don't know about the rest of you guys but I'm tired of miniatures I have to buy, build and paint. CSG's present a cool alternative to minis both metal and prepainted plastic.

Just my two cents.

There is a spaceship battle fleet game coming out - Captain Hero versus the Axis of Evil, or something like that. Very cartooony, aimed at kids.

Re: White Wolf getting into Constructable Strategy Games (CSG)

About this time I'm reminded of... what was the name... it was like Car Wars, only vastly simplified, and sold as starters and boosters of metal miniatures... the starter had a chassis, four tires, and a selection of weapons, boosters had a random pick of weapons and stuff... you basicly put together your own audoduelin' miniature car.

Lasted long enough to put out a 'monster truck' expansion... Crash, that's what it was called, I think... I predict this won't quite last as long.

Gotta say, it inspires a big "Yeah, ok. Whatever." from me.

And while I know Arthaus is meant to be the wild-eyed experiment division of White Wolf, does it feel to you like the Wolfies are not all that sure what they want to be right now?

cheers,
