http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9208.phtml

Chris Kice's Summary:

Dan Smith has completely outdone himself with this new addition to Battle of the Bands. If you're a fan of the original, Backstage Pass is a must have for your game collection!

Wording of "Ace"

I was under the impression that the wording on Ace meant that if you lost a gig, he allows you to remove one of your opponent's band members. As in, he gets pissed off and takes 'em out. Otherwise, there's really no point in playing him unless you're guaranteed a win.

"Booties" is probably a tribute to Bootsy Collins:

I had assumed the same as the reviewer until the last time we played. It makes a LOT more sense that Ace takes out a member of the other band, and it makes him really nasty.

K'tulu

Metallica recorded a long instrumental titled "The Call of Ktulu" (as well as a song called "The Thing That Should Not Be" - complete with a reference to "crawling chaos" and the line "not dead which eternal lie/stranger eons death may die). I suspect the reason for the alternate spelling in both places is that Chaosium said no to the use of the name, or wasn't asked in the first place.

I wished to honor the copyrights held by Chaosium and the Arkham House press, but wanted a close enough intreptation so it was clear with whom we are rocking!

Yep, Ace takes out ANY non me band member, so, besides whupping opponent's ass, if you have a junkie Pezz worth -2 and you want him gone, Ace is there for you, mate!

Not to mention, of course, Gnarly- Thotep, "The Surfer of 1000 forms," and "hastur, hastur, you fool, you fool"

does Chaosium hold a trademark on just "Cthulhu"? HPLs works are all in the public domain, and I wonder if that word is trademarkable.
