Arkham Horror - new Edition

I thought that someone had announced that they were releasing a new edition of this game, or at least a reprint.

Chaosium has one the works, which has been put back again to next year I think. The problem with this review, which is good enough, is that the original game is very much out of print and unavailable, except you are willing to pay $60 or more.

It's summer of this year last I knew. Was supposed to be late last year. I think it's a reprint and not an entirely new edition.

and 60 bucks? Wow, Everytime I looked it was always 200 or more.

The Chaosium website says the release date is "late Summer/Fall 2003", but Chaosium has missed deadlines in the past, so who really knows when it'll come out...

200 dollars?

Yikes. I have a mint copy of this on top of my wardrobe. I've never been one for non-competitive board games, so never got round to playing it.

Chaosium's "Anniversary Edition" of Arkh

Post originally by Viktor Haag at 2003-04-03 07:31:51

From comments I've heard, the "Anniversary Edition" of Arkham Horror will be quite expensive. Specifically, I've seen someone shake his head and marvel that Chaosium would think they could charge a 100 bucks for a boardgame.

Now, it's entirely possible that (a) I didn't hear him right, or (b) he was just shooting off at the mouth and didn't have his facts right.

But given how much they charged for the "Anniversary Edition" of the CoC rules (especially the "really limited version"), it wouldn't suprise me at all if they were looking to charge substantially for the new release of the game.

The last time I talked to the guys at Chaosium about this, this is what I heard:

It's a new edition. Charlie's extensivley revamping the rules to make the game play much more streamlined. There was some talk about removing "money" from the game, but not sure if that'll stick.

There may be _two_ versions of the game. One will be the "baseline" version that your average gamer will buy. Then there's the "Anniversary Edition" (for lack of a better term) which will be all fancy-schmancy and probably cost over $100. Again, last I heard, they weren't 100% certain they'd be doing the fancy one.

As far as release dates go, that's still up in the air. Personally, I'd be surprised to see it before Christmas.

Hell, Atlas sold an oaktag board for $45.

Flimsy game. $45 for Cults Across America and I get an Oaktag board and a bunch of cardboard chits. Could have paid less for a Mayfair game and gotten quality parts.

Of course, I couldn't have summoned The Bloody Tongue Nyarlothotep, but that's another story.
