[RPG]: Fiend Folio, reviewed by MerricB (5/5)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9268.phtml

Merric Blackman's Summary:

An excellent new \"Monster Manual\" for D&D 3E, which concentrates more on campaign building elements than usual for such a book.

Tome of Horrors?

I was just curious if anyone knew anything about the deal White Wolf's Sword & Sorcery line had w/ WoTC regarding the monster book Tome of Horrors. Supposedly, none (or "only a handful" as the book states) of the monsters in that book were supposed to be overlapped by any official WoTC product, yet there are, well, a fairly good handful or more that have been redone for the new Fiend Folio with no mention that I could find of the S & S book or its authors....

I'm assuming that those are just the "handful" that were spoken of, but I'm just curious whether or not anyone's heard any complaints about it yet

There's a discussion of this very thing over on the Necromancer Games forum for Tome of Horrors:

The deal was an understanding, not a contract. The overlap with Fiend Folio was not meant to happen, and it made Clark Peterson quite annoyed - although he's stated that WotC were wonderful to work with, and the overlap probably stemmed from a miscommunication within WotC rather than an active decision by them not to honour the understanding.

I will be reviewing the Tome of Horrors in the next few days, and I'll touch upon the issue there. Both are great books, though, and I'd not like to be without one of them.

Cheers,
Merric

There was also a rather large discussion about it here on the forums. Either there's something wrong with the search engine or my google-fu isn't powerful enough because I can't seem to come up with the thread.
