Ivinia!

The Ivinia module is one of the best pseudo-Viking settings ever published. I wouldn't call it "post-Viking era", as the culture is very clearly Viking; a post-"Viking" setting would mean that the nobility had converted to Hârnic deities and adopted more feudal ways. Ivinia is pretty much like Scandinavia in the 9th and 10th centuries.

While some of the more general info can be found in other Hârn products, I guess the intent was to present a stand-alone module. Together with the Menglana, Orbaal, Castles of Orbaal, and Pilot's Almanac modules, one can run a pretty self-contained campaign.

One of my minor gripes with the module was the use of real Scandinavian place-names. One place had the same name as the town where my mother was born, another where I did my military service. All in all, I think I changed 20+ names to... Danish and Norwegian place-names! ;-)

Ivinia is an intriguing setting, and might offer both players and GMs a needed change of pace.

Please note that the paragraph that reads:

[The GMs advice provided in the second half of the is useful, pertinent and includes one of the most important pieces of advice that can be given to a GM, namely that, "...if the world is to seem real it cannot appear to revolve around a few player characters."]

Should in fact read:

[The GMs advice provided in the second half of the overview is useful, pertinent and includes one of the most important pieces of advice that can be given to a GM, namely that, "...if the world is to seem real it cannot appear to revolve around a few player characters."]
