[RPG]: Bloode Island XPG, reviewed by Dan Davenport (5/4)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9383.phtml

Dan Davenport's Summary:

A nice little inexpensive .pdf game of piracy and voodoo on the Spanish Main. The rules could use a little tweaking to get the swashbuckling going, but overall it's a good deal.

Do not view with Netscape 4.X

I just noticed that Netscape 4.7 turns the HTML formatting in this review to guacamole. Looks fine with IE 5.0, though.

It looks fine under Netscape 6.X or the open-source Mozilla browser though.

For God's sake people, don't assume IE is the only browser out there

It does, doesn't it? Makes it look like I'm slowly losing my mind as the review progresses.(Which is actually pretty accurate, aside from the "slowly" and "as the review progresses" parts.)

Bloode Island *XPG*

FYI: I've been informed that the proper name of the game is "Bloode Island <u>XPG</u>", to distinguish it from the Bloode Island <u>1PG</u> game of the same name. I've asked that the title be changed above, if possible.

Dan,

Cool review. Let me state that I agree 100% with importing the combat styles from Arrowflight into Bloode Island to make it more cinematic.

For spells, I suggest taking a look at either Santa's Soldiers, or That Old Black Magic for Mean Streets to get spell ideas from for making spells for Bloode Island. Both takes are different, but might give some good reference points when making spells for BI.

I have not had a chance to run BI yet, so your comments on the ship combat rules I will take to heart. I wanted to write up some ships from Asia (junks and such) for a possible East Asia Sea supplement I've been toying with writing (and another excuse to use the Arrowflight combat moves, so we can have kung fu pirates!), and the fact that asian pirates tended to use smaller ships means they will get creamed when they take on a galleon.

Hey Gerry,

Just a suggestion - you might think of porting the naval combat over from the Island Nations AF sourcebook (when it comes back from the printer in just a few weeks). As you know DEEP and XPG are super easy to convert, and the naval combat for Arrowflight may be more what you're looking for.
