A magical horror game...

Thanks a lot for the review, very through and very good.

I've never seen, or run, Mage as "a magical horror game", so I can see from it (the review) that IF isn't going to appeal. Had way, way too much fun with Horizon Realms to turn them into ghost towns.

I'll just use the cash to buy Eden's Magic Box instead.

I had a problem with this, too. I love Horizon Realms and there practical removal from the game upset me. It was a good review though.

You would think they would have done something to keep Horizon Realms around but not in the control of mages. Maybe they were taken over by spirits and found a different source of quin. A lot of possibilites there.

Actually, this is pretty much what happened to most of them -- except the spirits *are* the former residents. In a way, the Realms are now more archetypes for what the represent -- very much like the Epiphamies elsewhere in the book. Victoria Station is full of spirits the reenact Scientific Romance. Doissetep is a phantom palace full of ephemeral schemers. They're also a little easier to get to, as well, sicne they're now on various Umbral planets.

So yeah, if you wanted Horizon Realms as a place for mages to hang out you'll need to tweak it, but the Realms that are still around are very cool things to adventure in.

The word is "epiphany." "Epiphamy" isn't even an acceptable variant; it's just a misspelling.

Or a subtle pun. A pun on what, I'm not sure. Infamy, maybe?

It's used because there's Epipha*n*y already means something different in the game.

Gotcha. I thought there'd be a reason, I just couldn't figure out what.

Thanks. Reassurement is good.

This was the hardest review I've ever written - for some reason, I just *couldn't* finish it. First I was distracted by the evil that is Gamecube, then someone else beat me to reviewing it, making me wonder if there was a point in finishing it. Then some people said they'd been disappointed with that other review and challenged me over my promise to review I.T., then I was PM'd by a bunch of folks wanting my opinion on the book, then I picked away it until the subject came up on Open last week and I *finally* made the last big push.

I'd like to think that it's a better review for it, though - I've had much longer to read the book, and one of my players' characters is now in the Umbra, so you can consider Chapter 2's information a playtest review.

Plus, this review would have been completely different if E Brooks and Stephenls hadn't pointed out on alt.games.white-wolf that Disembodiment was in Book of Worlds. As I had honestly forgotten it as well.
