http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9460.phtml

Dan Davenport's Summary:

A game that does for intelligent apes what AFMBE did for zombies... and then some. (Must... resist... monkey... puns...) You'll go ape over it!! (Damn.)

That one line is what convinced me to buy this game. So there. :P

Heh. Shows how much I know.

Anyway, regardless of the reason, I doubt you'll regret the purchase.

Finally!

There's finally a suitable game to do that "Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp" game I always wanted. <g>

Nice review. I have a couple of questions which I think are unrelated to one another, but my subconscious has tricked me before:

1. Are there bonobos in the game?

2. At what point do people consider an ape game to be a furry game?

Yup. That's cited in the bibliography.

Maybe your subconcious is making a "sex obsession" link there?

But seriously: Darnit, I forgot to mention bonobos. Actually, I think I did mention them in one draft and accidentally edited them out. Anyway, no, bonobos are not in the game, being ruled "inappropriate for PC use" without further explanation.

As to the furry angle: I have no idea. My guess would be that apes aren't prime furry material, since they're too human-like. But I know next to nothing about furridom, so take that with a very small grain of salt.

Bonobos would be easy to incorporate! They're chimps that instead of waving hello, have a quick scrog instead.

Simple! =D

Dan,

First off, nice review. Very concise, detailed, much as we always expect when you review an Eden product :-)

I have an Apeworld that is going to appear on the Garden of Eden fansite called "The Apes that Time Forgot". Inspiration for it should be obvious in the title. The Apes are based on Gibbons, cause I thought the Gibbons seemed underused in the book.

I did a Neanderthal package for the setting. I also wrote up Stone Age weapons, which was simply some regular weapons, and I modified the stats to do less damage, since they are made with flint and/or stone. Drop me an email, and I'll send you the doc file if you're interested

I more like the idea of zombie apes. It seems so...so Scooby-Doo.

Looks like an amusing book, but for some reason I keep flipping back to the Discworld.

...that and the Simpsons's "Planet of the Apes" musical.

...I was IN a Planet of the Apes musical once in highschool. It was...surreal. I was cast as Charlteon Heston. The director cast himself as Dr.Zayus. It was very, very strange.

There should be more ape related musicals.

Did anyone see Playmate of the Apes? That was a rap musical. Kind of. Well, it had musical segments. Like the Ape-Man Disco song.

And about those hairy winged poisonous ghosts. Perhaps they were apes used in cruel medical experiments. Maybe testing cosmetics. And now they've come back as vengeful ghostly spectres. With big feathery angel wings, and whtie robes, and maybe halos. But they're angry avenging old testament angels. And they kill people with the same torturous chemicals that were used to kill them.

Thanks, Gerry! (Although I do hope you'd expect that from my review of any product. )

I am, but I should probably wait until it goes up at Garden of Eden before taking a look. As of right now, I'm still pretty swamped with reviewing material. I do appreciate the offer, though. Sounds pretty cool!
