Even though my review is more positive than yours, I like your review and I think you bring up some good points -- nice balance for everyone to be able to read yours and mine side-by-side.

An aside about the lack of new races. I suspect that the next expansion pack, Heroes of the Underdark will have some of these new races implemented -- at least the Drow.

I absolutely agree about the prestige classes lacking a magic-wielding prestige class. Since they did five of them, I would have thought a rogue, fighter, cleric, wizard/sorceror set of classes would have made sense.

I thought it was hilarious that we both did the same review at the same time. Yours was a good review also, nice implementation of graphics and wordsmithing.

The Underdark supplement is promising, hopefully it will mean some better prestige classes and races.

The prestige classes were very unbalanced from a character basis. What I mean is there wasn't something for everyone. Arcane (Wiz/Sor), divine, and non-evil tank classes were basically left out. I like playing mages but given the NPC's and prestige class problem I eschewed playing th emage I started with and started SoU over.

Well, it's true that the Neutral Evil Thief I started with (having intended to make her an Assassin) is now true Neutral (heading gradually towards Chaotic Good) simply because the bonuses for becoming an Assassin are so weak. She's going to take a few mage or sorceror levels at some point and become either a Shadowdancer (likely) or an Arcane Archer (unlikely - not even sure I could meet the requirements without becoming a ranger or otherwise taking a third basic class, never a great idea) ...

One other question - are there actually any poisons in this expansion? The description of the poisons skill, which only seems to grant a bonus to RESIST poisons, makes me think that you can't actually use any yourself.

I found no poisons in my run through SoU. However there are a couple of cool modules (Specifically the Harper's Tales Prelude and Chapter 1) that do make use of poison and item creation. No class is attached to those specific items.

Cheers,
Wes
