[RPG]: Scourge of Worlds, reviewed by Jeb Boyt (2/3)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9495.phtml

Jeb Boyt's Summary:

An interactive DVD D&D is a promising idea. Scourge of Worlds unfortunately doesn't live up to the promise.

Thanks for the review, I wasn't all that impressed with the demo and was wondering if the full version would be worth it.

I find it enjoyable.

Heck, between this one and Dungeons & Dragons: The Movie, I still choose Scourge of Worlds.

Mind you, I'm not expecting this to win an Oscar statue, but this is the first step. I just hope there will be more of these, but I do agree with you: there are rooms for improvement.

I thought that it was okay as well. Admittedly, I used one of my Netflix rentals to get it instead of buying it. If I had paid $25 for it I would have been a bit put out.

The one thing that the review didn't mention is the extremely good voice acting in it. I was suprised. The animation could use some work but I wasn't expecting the Animatrix either when I popped the disc in.

It's an enjoyable waste of an hour or so but the limited replay value makes it a dubious choice for purchase.

Hey, I enjoyed parts of it, but I would have enjoyed it more if it hadn't ended so soon.

I also might be better able to appreciate the voice acting if I wasn't wincing so at the facial animation.

I want to agree that the voice acting was excellent. Its a very under-appreciated element of animated movies, I think, and 'Scourge' should be commended for doing well here. Even when the animation would be a little disappointing, the work of the voice actors kept me interested in the story.

I think 'Scourge' is a worthwhile addition to the D&D franchise. In a lot of ways it was what the D&D Movie should have been but wasn't.
