http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9518.phtml

Shannon Appelcline's Summary:

Kingdoms is a short tactical tile-laying game that requires real thoughtful play and is very enjoyable at the same time.

Quite timely, I was looking at this set a few days ago and debating whether or not I should purchase it My girlfriend and I enjoy playing these types of games together, and unfortunately, there aren't too many of them that are for 2 people only.

Glad to have been of help. I've actually never played it in the 2-player format--only 4--so I can't say how well it works there, but it's a good game so I'd hope it still does well.

Number of players (was: RE: Thanks for the review)

Hi Vibropod,

As you can read in my review of Kingdoms ( <http://www.rpg.net/news+reviews/reviews/rev_7274.html> ), the number of players has a big impact on the game. Since I wrote that review, I played several more 2-player sessions, and stand by my assessment: 2-player games are rather direct. You make a move, your opponent does a countermove, and so on. It still is a good game, but it plays slightly better with 3 or 4 players -- it's more unpredictable, and more balanced.

By the way, Shannon: excellent review. You always seem to be able to express what I exactly like or don't like in a boardgame :-)

Bye,

--Jake

My experience of Reiner's games is that if it says it's playable by 2 players, it is. I haven't played this one, but the LoTR board game, for example, works fine as a two player game.

My wife and I love 2 player board games too, so I'll take a look at this one when I get the chance.
