So almost one half of this review is the reviewer saying 'well I almost got it but didn't'.

Jesus, what a load of bollocks.

No offense meant to BigUn, I agree that the review is not really a review as I would call it either. But man, people got to realize that some of these gamers are probably all of 15. I'm sure their writing skills are not up to par. What I would like to see is a template on this site that allows somebody to easily fill out a better review style while still leaving some room for personal opinions, which are still important.

Lighten up

"isn't a review"?

Well, it may not be some hilarious 20 page long examination of the genre/game system, but it tells you that the system is based on D20, that it doesnt use hit points, and that it can emulate nearly every power the reviewer attempted to create.

here's an idea-- instead of complaining about how a review "sucks," why not just write your own review?

Why can't people write good reviews in the first place?

I liked this review. Before I read it, I assumed the game used hit points since it's d20, and I didn't know if it had a choking meta-plot that would prevent me from running a good game with it. This guy cleared it up for me.

I didn't think so at all. I found it informative.

Teleportation

Post originally by MikeM at 2003-07-27 20:32:29

I keep thinking about getting this game, but havent because of a few comments from my friends. They say that a lot of the powers and rules are great, but certain powers like teleportation are very weak. That there is no way to create characters like Illyana Rasputin who can teleport great distances.

There were other comments, but I cant remember them right now.

For those of you who have played, is teleportation really that weak?

Thanks

Without the book in front of me I can't be sure I'm remembering this correctly but the maximum distance for a PL10 character (i.e. a default starting level character) would be something like

50ft x 4 (sprint) x 1024 (Extended power stunt[1]) = c. 20000 ft or about 4 miles.

Right, that's not very far. I can think of at least two obvious fixes.

1. Use Dimensional Travel and define it as allowing transportation over a great range. This is what I'm using in my Elizabethan M&M game for our Dutch teleporter character.

2. Define a new power stunt (or extra if you feel it should cost that much) which increases the range beyond what the Extended power stunt provides. Perhaps call it Global Range and allow teleports in miles/kilometres instead of ft. This would allow a starting character a range of about 20,000 miles (say) and they would be able to reach anywhere on Earth. That's probably worth an Extra rather than a Power Stunt.

Myles

[1] Power stunts and Extras: A Power Stunt is cheap and modifies a power in a simple way. An Extra cost more and adds something new to a power or improves it in a substantial way.
