If I were a kid, those pieces are something that I would put in my mouth almost immediately.

Personally, I prefer to teethe on the nice, soft plastic pyramid container.

In any case, not for kids under 3. Says so right on the tube.

Icehouse Games

I've been a sucker for Fluxx for a couple of years now, and I once picked up six stashes of Icehouse pieces and a book, Playing With Pyramids, that details twelve Icehouse games. The convention where I purchased them (and got demoed at by Andy Looney and crew) a year ago was where I also got a copy of the then-recent Hypothermia, a small, well-produced 'zine regarding Icehouse games. That gave me a total of 18 rule sets in hard copy.

I've never found or bought a game or game-related item that has been as value-packed, purchase price vs. times used, as my Icehouse stashes (yes, better than glass counters and dice). I've gotten my money's worth many, many times over. Ice Towers, a turnless stacking game for 3-6 players, is probably my favorite game of the lot. It's even more fun if you play with the foot-tall cardboard pyramids that the Looney Labs folks play with at conventions. If you search their site (http://www.looneylabs.com), you can find plans to make your own Brobdignagian pieces. Just what you need for a game resembling full-contact ring-toss.

It's better than a 7-in-1 family games set. It's better than a deck of cards (well.. almost. Give it a couple hundred years..). It's better than a three book set purchased seperately to play a single game. Jeez, you need a cost analysis? Get thee hence and stuff.

You could say the same thing for every object on the planet that is smaller than a child's head. Not too discretionary, these kids.
