We got ourselves a convoy!

Now this sounds like a very fun game. It's just made it onto my "must have" list.

Does it go into the origins of the apocalypse at all -- or is it a given, as it is in Mad Max?

The exact nature of the apocalypse is never given. All we are told is that it was biological, nuclear and chemical in nature -- now known collectively as the Creep.

You might also enjoy "octaNe" by Jared Sorrenson. I think this is his site:

The Road Warrior goes into a bit of detail in the prologue about the state of the world: gas reserves dry up, nations quarrel, BOOM, the bomb gets dropped.

My friends and I used to make up our own RPG's back in the 80's when we got tired of playing AD&D. It was a hell of a lot of fun. One part Western, two parts Action Movie (with outragous vehicle stunts), and all parts attitude ("Hand the gas can over nicely or you get to talk to Mr. Gun, punk").

I'd think the d20 rules would fit this one nicely (if you use rules that are too realistic everyone dies too fast: no fun).

I took a look at Redline in the store: it looks like a solid little RPG.

In comparison.

How do vehicle stats and vehicle combat compare to vehicle combat of Star Wars, Spycraft, or d20 modern?

Vehicle combat in Redline is much simplier and more workable than in Star Wars d20 and appears to be simplier than Spycraft. I can't venture an opinion on d20 Modern.

Why wouldn't it be affordable?

Compare:

- Lock & Load: Iron Kingdoms Character Primer. $13, 58 pages.
- Spycraft Gentlemen's Agreement. $25, 95 pages.
- Sovereign Stone Campaign Sourcebook. $30, 224 pages.
