[RPG]: Shadow World Master Atlas Fourth Edition, reviewed by Brent Knorr (4/5)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9741.phtml

Brent Knorr's Summary:

An excellent summary of Kulthea, the Shadow World. A world that's been developed over the last twenty years. A unique and exciting setting and a well done book.

Solid Review

Solid review. There must be somethign in the water, since I posted mine up late last week...so I imagine it will be on rpg.net sometime this week.

I think it is a better book for people new to Shadow World than old timers. There just was not much new. But it is a great setting and one of the best around so I am always happy to see it republished.

Cheers,
Wes

Yup, I think it's a good introduction for newbies, I don't have a lot of the older Shadow World modules other than the previous edition of the Atlas, so I'm not sure how much of the information was available before but I'm looking forward to seeing more books in the future.

I missed the previous edition, but I have the two prior to this one. Plus most of the assorted support books as well.

It is such a neat and challenging setting, it is too bad it is also a very daunting one too.

I think I'll wait for the d20 version...

I have an older edition of Shadow World (a boxed set - the 2nd Edition?), and it is a fairly interesting setting - and if I have some spare cash, I will look into this new edition as well.

Still, I think I'll wait for the d20 version. Not that I am _that_ much of a fan of d20, mind you (my favorite game system remains GURPS). Still, Shadow World was developed with a level-and-class system in mind - and for this, D&D is more to my liking than Rolemaster...

No RMSS?

It seems weird to me that they'd include RM2 stats and nothing for RMSS.

YOu migth be holding your breath for a while. I agree that d20 support for Shadow World would be a great thing and expand it's audience in a manifold way.

There are a lot of similarities between RM and d29, but given Monte Cooke has been involved with both that is not a surprise.

What ICE is doign with all their RPG lines defies any logic at times. Sadly I thought RMSS, while ultimately a good system, really did not improve upon RM2e in ways ICE promised. But this gripe is 10 years old, I guess I should let it go.

There are stats for RM2 and RMFRP (virtually identical to RMSS)

The D20 version is being produced by The Guild Companion and initially will be PDF only. They should have a new issue up in a day or two and might have additional details.
