Nitpicky difficulty

I love Fluxx. It's formed the basis of many a fine game night. But I'm not sure if I agree with the "1" difficulty rating you gave to the game. Some of the rules are a bit obscure, like the "X=X+1" thing in version 3.0. And since the rules can change multiple times within a single player's turn, the situation can get confusing for new players. Also, the fact that there can be a half-dozen or more rules on the table (hand limit, keeper limit, draw X, play Y, goals, etc.) make the game at least somewhat complex.

Great review, by the way. Makes me wish they had an online version!

I actually didn't like the new X=X+1 card because I thought it raised the difficulty of the game up beyond what it had previously been.

In any case, you might be right about the difficulty overall, but I do believe this is one of the simplest games I've reviewed here.

Thanks for the comments,

Shannon

thanks for the review, I had almost forgotten all about Fluxx, so last night we dusted the old I.C.E. edition in my closet off, and my friends and I had an absolute blast! this game is stikll as fun as it ever was, I'm not too sure about picking up the new one (x=x+1 sounds a bit odd) but if they evver come out with an expansion, I'm there

Out of curiosity, what's this card do? I've got one of the older versions, and haven't seen this new one.

Add one to every digit shown on a card.

So read 1 as 2, 2 as 3 etc.
Read one as one, though.

Makes working out what's going on a bit difficult sometimes...

Right... Draw 2... oh, plus 1, so 3, hand limit 4... 5, keeper limit..um... 3... Oh, damn, forgot to include the bonus cards, anyone got any paper?

(It's not difficult if you're able to add one to a number, it just takes so much longer. I hate it, which is why I'm sticking with my old version 2 deck.)
