[RPG]: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Director's Screen, reviewed by Dan Davenport (4/4)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9816.phtml

Dan Davenport's Summary:

The adventures and GMing advice are just okay overall, but the screen itself is a thing of beauty.

Is it worth it, if. . .

Converted from Phorums BB System

I already have the WitchCraft screen, and I like it pretty well. Is there that much difference between the two?

I tend to prefer the WitchCraft ruleset somewhat, and I'm running a WC campaign currently. But at some point, I'm pretty sure I'll want to run Buffy or Angel.

Well, they are two different rules systems.

The two GM screens are completely different though.

Where WhitchCraft gives, for example, damage in D4(2)*Str format, Buffy will just say 2*Str. The armor table seems to list different armor values e.g. Leather armor WC = D6+1(4) vs. Buffy = 3

The Buffy Panic table is different from the WC Fear table.

The WC Outcome table takes up half a panel, with detailed results; the Buffy Success Level table only 4 square inch and has just 'descriptive' result qualifiers ('Decent', 'Good', 'Excellent', 'God-like',...)

The Magic systems are different but in WC you have no Magic tables; in Buffy you get a Magic table and a Spell Side Effect table.

And then in Buffy there's the Combat manoeuvres table, Drama Points table...

etc...

So. Two different screens.

Cheers,
Marc

Godfather Punk has it right. Only some of the WitchCraft screen will be applicable to Buffy, and the conversions to Unisystem Lite would take long enough to have me opening the Buffy rulebook anyway. So, I'd say that it's definitely worth it.

Ok, I'll definitely think about it when I start heading in that direction.
