[RPG]: Miniatures Handbook, reviewed by mxyzplk (4/2)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9836.phtml

Ernest Mueller's Summary:

The D&D Miniatures Handbook has some good new 3.5e D&D content, and some new D&D Miniatures rules - that are completely unrelated to one another.

My Thoughts Exactly!

Good book but the integration of the D&D and Miniatures stuff together feels like the book just didn't have enough miniature-related content so somebody decided to add some D&D stuff to fill space. It's not worthless space filler but it just seems incongruous.

Why make a bunch of 'Sudden' metamagic feats to bolster standard metamagic feats when it could as easily have been done by making a single 'Sudden' feat whose usage increases by the number of standard metamagic feats one has...?...*shrugs*...Sounds like filler.

Simple fact of it is - if you want mass combat rules for D&D, get Cry Havoc or wait and see if Fields of Blood from Eden is any good.

A "Miniatures Handbook" that seems to have less miniatures content than anything else. I guess WotC figured that title would sell better than 'A Bunch of Random Stuff for D&D'. They could have put the miniatures rules together into a B&W softcover and charged a lot less for it, and left the filler for another book.

IIRC an updated version of Cry Havoc will be coming out in one of the next couple Warcraft books.

Picked up CH at the FLGS yesterday. **Nice** book. Haven't read it entirely, but as a RPG/Miniatures gamer, I'm happy. It has a handful of **different** mass combat rules, ranging from d20-based 10-units-equals-one-miniature, to an abstract "couple of die rolls for entire nations" thing.

Although it **looks** like your typical thin softcover supplement, it's "chock full" of mass combat goodness. Not bad for $22 (or cheaper PDF).
