[RPG]: Into the Green, reviewed by Bradford C. Walker (3/3)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9838.phtml

Bradford C. Walker's Summary:

A very specialized book for a very small audience, but well-done and sufficiently useful for those that would require it.

You indicated twice that the monsters are one of the better parts of the book, and yet you don't mention any by name. How about some examples?

a few questions

1) What's the difference between a forest and a wood?

2) What does the *essential blade* spell do, and what book is it from?

3) So how exactly *did* they stat the machete? Are you saying that the stats they gave it *are* identical to a short sword that does slashing damage, or is that what you think they *should* be?

4) You said that the "*non-mechanical* content (other than its monsters) isn’t that good" (emphasis mine). Don't you mean the *mechanical* content?

The most interesting creature in the book is the bayowulf- a land form of seal that produces mist to hide itself on the hunt.

Unfortunately many of the others are killer trees (yawn), undead (huh?), a fey that could be urban, and a comet induced mutation that is VERY poorly explained. There are other creatures that you might find interesting, but over all, the rules are the reason I keep the book. I really enjoy most of Bastion's book, but this has to be the worst that I have seen.

As much as it pains me to say, I suggest that you look at Wilds from AEG.

I don't have the book on me, but I can answer your first question:

Woods are forested spots that are close to humanoid communities. Since they are patrolled, foraged from and such, they have a different ecology (for lack of a better term) and feel than old growth forests.

Hope that helps.
