[RPG]: Rifts d20 Conversion Manuel, reviewed by Tanner (2/1)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9884.phtml

Tanner's Summary:

High hopes for a good conversion were quickly shot as I read... And realised this conversion lacked the charm of even Palladium's clunky system.

Someone's looking to get sued....

Palladium does not allow conversion documents based on their properities to be put on the net. They fire out cease & desist messages very quickly.

Your review just exposed the author to litigation.

Yeah, he did something similar in the forums.

The odd thing here is that he did it over a conversion that's apparently been tossed by the wayside by its author.

Didn't know about Palladium's whole problem with conversions thing, so it was a first for me to hear about that in the forum (and I submitted the review before I did that, so...)

Urgh. And I can't believe I missed that typo in the title. ~_~''

It is surprising that this article has stayed up THIS long...

I personally love to talk about converting other SETTINGS to PALLADIUM, and evertime I mention just this, I get cut off on their message boards. Good luck on this article tho.

I have made some kind of request awhile back through Palladium and did get a response from his wife (Maryann), they are nice people.
I expressed my disappointment in Palladium not revamping their system in which I have ran for the past 13+ years. Maryann did say that we can do whatever we wanted for personal use but could not advertise through the E-mail/web or reproduce for money.
I myself would like to see a D20 version of Rifts and have that as a project to work on sometime in the future for my own and with friends who love the Rifts setting as well. I recommend looking into the OGL cybernet rules from Mongoose for the cybernetics which I have not bought yet but do plan in purchasing very soon.

Well, the review itself doesn't infringe on anyone, but having those Rifts -> D20 pdfs sure does. Now they, I can hardly believe, are still up

Well this is just funny. I wondered what that cease and desist letter I received from Palladium the other day was all about. I had forgotten that I had the file archived on my site still (thougn not linked to anywhere). Also, I wrote this about 2 years ago and as anyone can plainly tell, it's not a finished product. Nor is it a professional product. I wrote it for my game group. But I'll stop being defensive now.

Some people I decided to share this with liked it, some didn't. Simple truth is that I'm really not interested in finishing it anymore since it can't really be published legitimately. Tanner offered some great ideas, and I just playtested the Damage Resistance rules in the last campaign I ran and, surprise surprise, they don't work that well. I'm also not surprised about the kinks found in the classes.

My main goal with the document was a "quick and easy" conversion. Which it is, I think. Any GM willing to do some research can take it from there.

Also, that link will no longer work. I actually had it there for storage and forgot about it, and it's not linked anywhere on my website. So, sorry if that inconveniencies anyone, but getting threatened with lawsuits is not fun.

Actually, it is kinda fun (in a threatening kind of way), but I don't recommend any of you try it.
