[RPG]: Naughty & Dice, reviewed by Rafael Velez (3/4)

http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9930.phtml

Rafael Velez's Summary:

At times the contents may be enough to make some of us blush. Yet Naughty & Dice adequately presents a broad range of possibilities (from raunchy to just plain dull) for sexual situations within a role-playing game.

Hedonism in Modern Society

In fact, the only truly motivating genre-specific example is Christine Morgan's outline of her original clerics, The Talopeans. To be specific, the Talopeans subscribe to hedonism, a concept completely alien to most individuals in modern society.

Never been on spring break in Florida or Mexico, I take it? Or heard about what goes on in the Playboy mansion? Trust me, there are plenty of people who engage in mindless hedonism in our society.

Chris Davies.

Such activites are by definition extra-societal. If hedonism were the norm, it wouldn't be called, "Girls Gone Wild!" it would just be called "Girls on Spring Break!"

If you get bored, do a search on swingers' clubs. You'll be surprised how many there are.

It's not a significant portion of the population, but they aren't unheard of either.

Yeah, it's not a significant portion of the population. And swingers aren't hedonists; they're just married people who enjoy having sex with other people and who don't have a problem with their spouse doing the same.

A true hedonists would do nothing but engage in pleasuarable acts. No work, unless it's something they enjoy, no strenous labor, etc.

There's a netbook that covered similar territory for D&D second edition, and it was pretty good. Best of all, it's free (if you can find it).

Gees, my view of the world must be different. I would have said the hedonism sits right after apathy, as the main ocupation of this world.

This book used to be that netbook. The work has been revised and expanded for print publication.
