Orpheus: Non USA - Settings

A good review, which I agree with. The only sad thing about Orheus is the real requirement that it should be set in the USA - I ahve spent the last few days tring to think of ways to make it more amenable to a UK or European setting - just easier for me as I am a Brit/Dane - and failing. Any thoughts on this?

What little I know about/have read in Crusade of Ashes tells me that there's little, if any, way it could work here in good ole Denmark.

Yes, which is rather depressing. I thought of another Danish setting btw, I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but part of Nocturnum for Cthulhu by Fantasy Flight Games is set in Copenhagen. I am working on a Dark Age Cthulhu scenario set in Lolland and Falster if it is of any interest?

Not that it's relevant to this review, but I'd love to see that Dark Ages scenario, particularly if it's not in Danish.

As soon as I have completed it I'll e-mail it to you. And no, it's not in Danish - my Danish is appalling, er jeg ikke forstar Dansk? My family are from Falster though. Jakob, have you written any Danish game scenarios? I'd love to see some. And one wonders if Orpheus could work in Denmark after all...

In fact I am now beginning to get a mad idea for a webpage of resources for games set in Denmark, covering history, culture, law, cuisine, currency, customs, folklore, hauntings, etc, etc, and in English and Danish. A sort of tribute to my neglected homeland. I wonder if anyone would be interested? Hopefully the Danish rpg community could write most of it?

Well, no. I've made a point of mentioning Denmark as much as possible in the books I have contributed to and I have been bugging Matt (Dark Ages developer) for a DA: Scandinavia... but no luck so far.

Hey, I'd contribute to it! *S* Drop me a mail (Jklunder@hotmail.com) and we'll chat.

So... Why is it bad?

I'm a little confused here. You mentioned at the outset that this was a bad product:

"Crusade of Ashes takes on the story's metaplot head-on, and looses, in a big time way."

And:

"[Crusade of Ashes] levels the playing field, in a bad way. Really bad."

But don't actually tell us why...

What is it that makes this such a bad book?

I don't think he means bad as in "quality". I think he's inferring to all the very unhappy events that happen in the metaplot.

It -could- be done

I don't want to go into the details (for fear of spoiling anything), but it shouldn't be hard at all to convert Orpheus to oversees games. Just need to change some names and tactics is all.
