Interesting question. I hope it would be as Clive Barker's fantasy/horror world/worlds would make an awesome RPG and give some much needed diversity to a genre dominated by WOD etc It would also be fascinatingly original compared to most RPGs. It doesn't look like it from teh review but I can certainly hope.

Well, it was kind of hard to tell what the game was about I thought. That said, if you might check out Nightbane by Palladium. Awful system, but some interesting ideas for mining, and character creation is kind of fun. Very much like a WOD/Nightbreed mixture and worth converting to another system (GURPS Supers or HERO maybe).

I believe the name Midian actually comes from the Bible.

I sez:

It does. It was a place of safety for outcasts to flee to to avoid persecution for their crimes; hence, its use in Barker's fiction. His writings are full of Biblical, hermetic, and other symbolical allusions which make it fascinating to read.

I wish this review had told me thing one about the actual game, not just about the frustration with the players. I want to know about what kinds of supernatural beasties are available to play, what the premise of the setting is, and so on. With a name like Midian, and my love of Clive Barker's writings, I had to read this review, but ...

Also, I second the kudos to Nightspawn/Nightbane. Although Palladium takes a stern, TSR-ish attitude towards conversion material using their games. Possibly because the system is, in fact so clunky. Fact, everything I've read by Nightbane's author (name escapes me) has been good.

Anyways ...

I think it's here:

<http://www20.brinkster.com/midiandfrpg/Midian.htm>

For anyone who wants to check it out.

I don't think it has a thing to do with Clive Barker, but I could be wrong. I'm not a big fan, because King/Koontz/Barker seem to have too-obvious formulas that they overuse...but the Nightbreed movie was interesting.

The Nightbane RPG and associated supplements rock! I just wish the system would get a serious overhaul. Storyteller would be my preferred system for that, I think, as long as any reference to the World of Dorkness(tm) was flushed.

How did we get to Barker & Palladium? I thought that this was a fantasy game. I also thought this was a thread for a review of that game, not reviews of other games & short stories. Keep with the topic, please.

If this was based on Nightbreed, then I figure it would have been titled *Nightbreed* instead. Also, I'm sure the reivew would mention this.

That's what the *category* tags on the side are for. Plus she said in the intro *dark fantasy* that about says it.
