The Kalamar part showed a lack of knowing Kalamar

I looked this book over in the store some time back, wondering if I ought to add it to my collection.

However the note for Kalamar sets it in Geanavue, which in the actual Kalamar setting is a small city of 8000 that is anti-wizard and anti-arcane magic in general which specifically calls out a lack of any organized presence of mages.

If that got that wrong, I had to wonder what else was off.

Hi Arcady:

When we came up with the idea to have Redhurst teleport into settings owned by other companies, we contacted each of them and asked for their help. In each case, they suggested a location in their world they thought was appropriate. After writing each section in that part of the book, we sent the pieces off to the original owners for approval.

In the case of Kalamar, for instance, the guys at Kenzer suggested Geanavue and sent us a copy of the book, along with the artwork from the cover. Then they approved the bit that we wrote about Redhurst and Geanavue. You can't get any more official than that. If you read the actual piece, I think you'll find it jibes well.

Take care,

P.S. Thanks for the great review, Justin!

bravo Matt. it is always deeply entertaining to me when developers defend their products, and even more entertaining when they do so well. I glanced at the item when it shipped to my local store and found it vaguely interesting. I even bookmarked it as a possible future purchase, which is a major thing for me, as I dont generally buy non official supplements to any systems I own. but they sold out and never ordered, and I never bothered picking it up. I might look harder now though, it seems like a solid, and interesting read.

Hi Justin:

Thanks for your kind words. I encourage you to ask your local retailer to order the book for you. If that doesn't work, you can always order it direct from us through our website at www.humanheadgames.com.

If you're still on the fence about the book, you can still stop by the website and pick up the free 17-page PDF preview. While you're there, you can also check out the four free web enhancements we released as PDFs.

Take care,

Matt Forbeck

The plane-hopping business

So, how big a part of the 'setting' is this moving between the planes? Could I, if I wanted to, place the academy in my own D&D setting without too much fuss?

The plane-hopping is just a GM tool to move the school where you wish. You will have absolutely no trouble incorporating it into any fantasy world, either permanently, or in plane-hopping form.

You could just pop it down. You lose a bit of the included plot threads if it isn't mobile, but it would be perfectly valid for use in Your D&D Game.

No problem at all. I actually found the plane-bouncing goofy, and just removed it. And I've just set it in the modern world, and only with humans. It's a very adaptable and useful book.
