Great review!

just read the review and I have to say this is one of the best I've read; especially from the latest crop where it really stands out.

I will admit I was a little biased towards it though, as I was also halfway to my wallet when I saw the cover and read the blurb on the back - certainly FFG deserve some kudos for putting together a VERY attractive looking package. And this was a 'runner up' in the contest? Eberron had better kick ass if it beat this out!

I imagine one reason it might not have won is that it does involve a few rules changes (racial talents and transformations, classes being replaced)- not so much that it's not D&D, but enough that WotC might've been wary of being the ones to publish it. They may want to stay nearer the baseline of what's in the PHB.

Then again, the changes may have been made or amplified when the setting was taken to FFG.

I've seen the book for quite some time and have been debating about purchasing it. After reading your extensive review, I'm going to give Dawnforge another look.

I'm a big Dawnforge fan already and have to agree with your review 125%... because that would bring the 4 up to a 5 which I think it genuinely deserves.

Anyway, this was a very well-written review with lots and lots of detail.

Let's hope the first supplement is as good as its parent!

3 supplements on the slate

There are 3 supplements already in the works (or shipping as we speak, in the case of Age of Legend).

Age of Legend- character supplement
Path of Legend- an introductory legend quest
A monster book, title of which I don't know

Thanks for the great review!

Fan site

www.pathsoflegend.org

This is an excellent fansite and is already becoming every bit as good as www.againsttheshadow.org, the Midnight fansite by the same webmaster.

You'll find errata and a FAQ as well as lots of great discussion, and soon some fan-created supplemental material, I'm sure!

Dumb Question, but...

No hates to d20. I grew up on D&D, and love playing it every now and then.

However, I'm currently looking for another "default" fantasy setting to run using another rulesystem, like Fudge.

Would you guys say that Dawnforge has enough coolness to warrant picking it up, knowing that the parts that focus on D&D rules would be useless to me?

Just curious.

Thanks in advance.

I think so. There's a lot more setting information than there are rulesy bits.
